Walk4Justice is a non-profit organization that was created by donation and volunteer work since January 2008. Gladys Radek and Bernie Williams co-founded this group to raise awareness about the plight of the far too many missing and murdered women across Canada. Their mission statement reads as follows:
“Aboriginal Women, our life-givers and their children, our future, are still suffering from generations of Canadian policy. A policy that is contrary to article 2 of the United Nations International Convention of Genocide. We are walking for justice, closure, equality and accountability… There is a dire need to address the discriminatory, racist practices that have taken place involving the police, politicians, the judicial system and societal acceptance of the horrendous crimes against humanity.”
The organization recently embarked on a cross-country walk which began in Vancouver, B.C., on June 21 and will end in Ottawa, Ont., with a vigil on September 21, 2011. This is its fourth major walk since 2008.
Gladys Radek is kindly asking for donations to help the walkers and other family members return home to B.C. after the event. The organization is looking for donations, plane tickets, or Aeroplan points for two walkers to return home to B.C.
