2011 B.C. Municipal Elections
Posted 2011-Nov-16

British Columbia municipal and school board elections are set to take place on Saturday, November 19, 2011.

This is your opportunity to voice your opinion on a host of issues that will directly affect you and your pocketbook, including who will be setting your property tax rates, determining budgets for libraries and parks and deciding how often sewer and water lines are upgraded and municipal roads are paved.

In addition, this is an opportunity to have a say in how our children are educated.  School boards are elected to improve student achievement.  They do this by building and maintaining a school system that reflects local priorities and expectations.  They guide the work of the school district by setting a plan, policy and annual budget and act as advocates for students with the Ministry of Education.

Traditionally, municipal elections have very low voter turnouts.  During the most recent municipal elections in 2008, an average of less than one in four eligible voters came out to vote across the province with voter turnout well below that in many areas.  This means your vote can make a difference.  Take the time to find your balloting station on November 19th and have a hand in deciding the future of your municipality for the next three years.

Please refer to your municipality’s website for voting information.
