Absentee Ballot Request Criteria
Posted 2011-May-10

TWU CONSTITUTION, ARTICLE XIX – PARAGRAPH 5 (Page 30)

An absentee ballot may be issued by the Secretary-Treasurer of the Union upon the written request of the individual member prior to the specified meeting and shall be for the sole purpose of voting on matters under the jurisdiction of the Convention or the Executive Council.  An absentee shall be considered as a member who is working, sick, on vacation or located in an area making it impossible to attend the meeting where the vote is to be conducted.

No other reason can be accepted, and if no reason has been put on the written request, no ballot will be issued.  The ballot will be sent to the member’s home or alternate address (we will not send a ballot through the Company mail).

Please specify either French or English kit.  Requests must be received by the Union office by May 25, 2011.

Member must fill out the “Absentee Ballot Request” form available on the TWU website at www.twu-stt.ca

Members outside the Lower Mainland can fax their request to the Union office at 604-435-7760, Attn: Jen Patterson.

Upon approval of the Secretary-Treasurer, members can then receive a ballot and vote at the following location:  5261 Lane Street, Burnaby, BC V5H 4A6

Members will be asked to produce proof of authorization before they receive their ballot.

Note:  Without written approval of the Secretary-Treasurer, ballots will not be issued.

Alternately members may request to have a ballot mailed and return the ballot by mail to the Lane Street office.  Ballots must be returned to the Lane Street office by 12:00 p.m. (noon), June 6, 2011.

We will not fax ballots.

The member’s Employee number on the outer envelope is helpful in speeding verification of membership.

If necessary, a member can bring their written request to the Union office, 5261 Lane Street, Burnaby, BC, during working hours (Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) and cast their ballot at that time.

Michael Thompson, Secretary-Treasurer
