Commencing April 5, 2011 your Bargaining Committee met with TELUS every day including evenings and weekends. The hours were long and the meetings intense.
Josh Blair – Executive VP of Human Resources, joined TELUS’ Bargaining Committee for these critical days. The work done by the committees from July 2010 up to April 1, 2011 put the parties in a position to make quick progress on challenging issues.
A large number of the issues in dispute between the parties had been resolved when meetings that ended late on the night of Saturday, April 9, 2011. Although many issues were resolved by April 9, a significant number were still on the table the morning of Sunday, April 10, 2011. As planned, TELUS CEO Darren Entwistle, joined the TELUS Bargaining Committee at the table. Face to face discussions resumed Sunday morning and continued in a number of sessions throughout the day. The last remaining issues were resolved and a tentative agreement in principle was reached at 1:30 a.m., Monday, April 11, 2011. We have continued to work this week and have now finalized details of the documents.
From the beginning of this process your Bargaining Committee has made all of its decisions by consensus. That decision making process has been difficult at times, but has lead to a consistent and unified approach to bargaining.
Your Bargaining Committee unanimously endorses the tentative agreement.
The next step in the process will be for your Bargaining Committee to meet with the TWU Executive Council on Tuesday, April 19, 2011. We will be reviewing the tentative agreement with Executive Council in detail and hope that they will also endorse it.
Ratification meetings will be held beginning May 10, 2011 and conclude in early June. Meetings will be held at the following locations:
