Benevolent Society AGM Update
Posted 2010-May-27

The Benevolent Society recently met for their Annual General Meeting which took place on May 19, 2010.

The Society approved audited financial statements and voted on the following two resolutions:

Resolution from Local 2:

WHEREAS it is common practice for the TWU-STT Benevolent Society to allocate up to $1000 for retiring employees who are members in good standing; and

WHEREAS this amount has not been changed for more that 25 years; now
THERFORE BE IT RESOLVED that TWU-STT Benevolent Society Bylaw 11-2 be increased to $150 per year to a maximum of $3000.

Resolution from Directors of the Benevolent Society:

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Directors of the Benevolent Society investigate all options and proceed with the rebuilding of 5261 Lane Street or the relocation of the TWU-STT Burnaby office to a new owned property subject to approval of the members of the Society at the AGM on May 19, 2010; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the TWU-STT Benevolent Society Board of Directors seek the advice and assistance of Concert Properties with our rebuilding or relocation.

The Directors recommended non-concurrence for the first resolution because of the heavy cost that it would incur to the Society and recommended concurrence with the second motion. The members in attendance at the AGM on May 19 agreed with both the recommendations of the Directors. As a result, the Directors will now proceed with the investigation as specified. All further updates will be shared with members as information becomes available.
