The B.C. Federation of Labour has implemented a boycott of the Cafeteria at the Air Canada (AC) Operations Centre at Vancouver Airport. On September 25, 2011, Sodexo took over the contract to operate the cafeteria at the AC Operations Centre. The cafeteria has been staffed by members of UNITE HERE Local 40, many with more than 20 years servicing AC personnel. This decision made because both Sodexo and AC are refusing to hire the current cafeteria employees.
The Local 40 cafeteria workers are asking for your support by:
1. Refraining from using the 3rd floor cafeteria in the AC Hangar/Ops Centre at Vancouver Airport until the entire staff is hired; and
2. Write to AC to complain regarding their refusal to rehire the cafeteria staff.
As a member of the BC Federation of Labour, the Telecommunications Workers Union (TWU) fully supports the Federation’s decision and hopes this issue will be resolved soon. Until then, we kindly ask our members to refrain from using the 3rd floor cafeteria in the AC Hangar/Ops Centre at Vancouver Airport. We will keep members updated as information becomes available.
