Jack Layton Battles Prostate Cancer
National Democratic Party Leader, Jack Layton, revealed yesterday in a message which appeared on his NDP website and other social media pages, that he is battling prostate cancer. He shared that his own father fought the disease 17 years earlier and was successfully treated. The TWU extends its gratitude to the NDP and its support for the labour movement throughout the years. Committee Updates
The Human Rights Committee presented their report yesterday which focused on the problems associated with the issue of bullying in the workplace. The report describes the profile of a bully and steps to recognize and prevent bullying. All members who feel that they are a victim of bullying are strongly urged to contact their Shop Steward to address this issue. Everyone has a right to work in a physically and psychologically safe work environment. The Health and Safety, and Education Committees’ reports presented during yesterday’s convention were also passed. Election results will take place tomorrow as well as reports from the Credentials Committee, Constitution Committee, Solidarity Committee and Finance Committee.
LTD and Pension Trustee Panel Address Convention Delegates
David Podmmore, Chairman and CEO of Concert Properties, attending his 21st TWU convention, presented a strong and sturdy portfolio to delegates at this year’s annual policy convention. The TWPP has a significant investment in Concert properties which recorded a net profit of $22 million in 2009. The presentation was followed by a social function hosted by Concert Properties for the convention delegates.
