Canada’s Finance Ministers meet this weekend on Prince Edward Island to talk pensions and retirement security.  We need to keep the pressure up, because some of them still don’t get it.

This week, I was in Newfoundland & Labrador and was joined by the mayor of St. John’s in a news conference about the need to expand the Canadian Pension Plan (CPP).  Mayors across Canada know that decent pensions are good for communities.  I also met with the provincial Finance Ministers, as well as the entire cabinet of Prince Edward Island.

We’re telling them that Canadians can’t afford to wait.  They need to fix our retirement income system now, starting with an expanded CPP and an immediate 15% increase in the Guaranteed Income Supplement for today’s poorest seniors.
