The New Democratic Party of Canada held its convention in Halifax on August 14 – 16. The following resolution was passed during the convention:
Be It Resolved that the New Democratic Party of Canada opposes the outsourcing and offshoring of Canadian jobs in the telecommunications sector;
Be It Further Resolved that the New Democratic Party of Canada supports and initiates amendments to the Canadian Labour Code to make such outsourcing less desirable, such as increasing the value of severance pay provisions;
Be It Further Resolved that the New Democratic Party of Canada initiates amendments to the Telecommunications Act to add quality of customer service as a performance requirement leading to the granting of telecommunications licenses.
