NDP leader, Jack Layton, kicked off his campaign in Ottawa on March 26 and made his way to BC the next day where he addressed party followers at a Town Hall Meeting in Surrey.
The Telecommunications Workers Union (TWU) Public Awareness Committee was very pleased to hear his words of support. The Ottawa Citizen quoted Layton in its March 27 paper as saying, “The New Democrats have a plan to make life more affordable for average families; to ensure seniors and children aren’t living in poverty; to reward companies that keep jobs in Canada; to strengthen the pension plan; and to improve front line health services.” The NDP leader indicated that his party’s platform would also include help for small businesses and that programs would be targeted to companies that keep jobs in Canada instead of sending them overseas.
The NDP has been an important supporter of the TWU’s Keep Jobs in Canada campaign (see www.keepjobsincanada.ca). We are proud to return that support to the NDP and encourage all our members to do the same.
