During its last General Council meeting, held March 16, 2011, the Fédération des travailleurs et travailleuses du Québec (FTQ) (Federation of Quebec workers) adopted a resolution at the 29th Congress
in which it agreed to participate in Opération Noël Solidaire (Operation Christmas Solidarity) and to promote it among its members and affiliates.
Started five years ago by FTQ Regional Council activist, Manon Brulotte, and coordinated by the Council, Opération Noël Solidaire is an annual campaign that aims to raise funds for workers on strike or locked out during the Holiday Season in the province of Quebec. The funds raised will be distributed in the form of grocery vouchers to individuals or used to fund group activities during Christmas.
At a time when most of us will be able to spoil loved ones and get some needed rest, we must not forget that over 3,000 FTQ union members are currently living on the street, on strike or locked out. The results of the campaign will be unveiled in the magazine Monde Ouvrier, an FTQ publication.
Please contribute generously in order to make the Holiday Season a little sweeter for these sisters and brothers. Every donation is important and much appreciated. Cheques should be made out to Opération Noël Solidaire and sent before December 16, 2011 to:
