Participation in TELUS Skills Self-Assessment
Posted 2009-Dec-24

Earlier this month, Telus began distributing emails to members inviting them to participate in a self assessment survey called BTTO (Business Transformation and Technology Operations) Skills Inventory.

It appeared to be a voluntary survey and many members declined the invitation to participate. The Union has since learned that managers have indicated that participation in the self assessment survey is mandatory.

The Telecommunications Workers Union Executive Council has concerns about the use of this self assessment tool and how it could impact the membership, including what possible discipline may be imposed if members decline to participate, or the consequences of not being able to accurately assess themselves.

The Union does not endorse participation in this survey and will be filing a policy grievance on the process. If members receive disciplinary action related to the BTTO Skills Inventory survey, they are encouraged to file individual grievances.
