The Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) is asking all members and affiliates, of which the Telecommunications Workers Union (TWU) is and affiliate, to boycott products of Old Dutch Snack Foods Ltd.
, as a result of the company’s lockout of 170 workers in Calgary. The employees are members of the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW Canada – Local 401) and were waiting for Old Dutch Snack Foods Ltd. to negotiate a fair and equitable collective agreement. The current agreement expired more than a year ago, and on March 29, 2009, the company locked out the 170 members.
These are some of the Old Dutch snack foods and the following brands that are produced at the locked-out plant:
• Humpty Dumpty
• President’s Choice – Western Grocers
• No Name – Western Grocers
• Great Value – WalMart
• Compliments Value – Sobeys
• Safeway Blue Bags – Safeway
• Co-op Krunchie – Co-op
• Cyclone – Overwaitea
The TWU is urging all members to support the 170 workers who have been locked out, by not purchasing the above-mentioned products, and to tell your local supermarkets why.
In solidarity,
TWU
