TWU supports the CUPW

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) from Calgary and Edmonton were affected by a 24-hour rotating strike which started Tuesday night, June 7, until the following Wednesday night.

This action involved over 4,000 unionized workers.  The Calgary-based TWU National Vice President, John Carpenter, and Business Agents, Ivana Niblett, Delores Pilsl, and Juanita West, joined their Brothers and Sisters from CUPW on the picket line in support of their struggle to gain a fair collective agreement.

Bev Ray, Edmonton CUPW Local president, was quoted as saying, “The reason why Alberta was chosen is because in the past years we’ve had serious issues dealing with the employer with respect to staffing here and the level of forced overtime that letter carriers have been having to work.  Alberta has been one of the hardest hit locations across the country with respect to that.”

CUPW members are fighting about pensions, staffing and the short-term disability plan.
