TWU Supports USW Members on Strike

The Telecommunications Workers Union (TWU) supports the 3,500 United Steelworkers Union (USW) members from Sudbury and Port Colbourne, Ontario, and Voisey’s Bay, Newfoundland,

who have gone on strike against their employer, Vale-Inco, facing down demands for concessions from a company that posted over $13 billion (US) in net profits in 2008.

Brazilian global mining giant Vale, after being privatized in 1997, has unleashed a vicious attack on workers around the world, including Canada.  After purchasing Canadian steel giant Inco in 2006, relations between the workers and the new company owners deteriorated.
