Are you a person with a disability interested in human rights research? Do you have a disability and feel you've been treated unfairly? Do you know someone with a disability who has experienced discrimination?
The BC Coalition of People with Disabilities is a community partner in a human rights research project by and for people with disabilities. We are looking for people with disabilities who live in a Vancouver suburb who want to be interviewed about their human rights experiences. This is a 2-hour interview, conducted by people who also have disabilities.
This project is called the Disability Rights Promotion International, and is based out of York University. The research is happening in 5 Canadian cities and 8 countries. The purpose of this research project is to establish a global human rights monitoring system for people with disabilities. Here is the project website: http://www.yorku.ca/drpi/
For this project, we need to interview a cross-section of people with different disabilities. Everything is kept absolutely confidential. You do not need to tell me your disability/disabilities, but I do need to know a few things to set up the interview.
What categories do your disability/disabilities fall into? physical and/or mobility disability (including pain, fatigue, hidden disabilities); deaf or hard of hearing; blind or low sight; psychiatric disabilities; intellectual disabilities (including learning disabilities or brain injuries). Age range? 18-25, 26-40, 41-55, 56-70, 70+
Where do you live? To participate, you must live in a suburb of Vancouver. What types of disability accommodations do you need to fully participate? For example, materials in Braille, captioning, an attendant, etc. There is a budget for accessibility costs. Local public transportation costs are also provided.
